A place outside of time, that seems more beautiful every time I return, as if my eyes were opening a little more each time.
Bassin d'Arcachon is a special series, dedicated to the place where I grew up: the sound of the waves, the smell of the pines, the calm and the softness of the sand. A place outside of time that seems more beautiful every time I return, as if I were discovering it again as it really is, as if my eyes were opening a little more as the years go by.
The Bassin is lived away from the roads, away from home. It is the pine needles cracking under my feet, it is the spray of the waves on days of high tide, it is that rhythm, that dance, at the speed of the tides, no two days alike.
That is why this series shows it in softer, pinker, more pastel colours. It is like the light that stays when you close your eyes after looking at the sun for too long, a light that belongs to no hour of the day and yet is the light of every memory I have of that place. I believe we don't remember places as they are, we remember them as we felt them, and the Bassin I have always felt in that softness, slightly veiled, slightly unreal, with the pines passing in front of the sea and the sails passing behind the pines, until you no longer quite know what is in front and what is behind.
So I layered them, high tide over low tide, the pine wood over the water, the way memory and time do when you keep coming back to a place you have always known. This is not the Bassin as it is photographed, it is the Bassin as I carry it inside me, and I would like those who know it to recognise it a little, and those who don't to feel like going back to it without ever having been.

This series opens on October 16.
Each image exists in twenty numbered copies: seventeen paper prints, in 40 × 60, 50 × 70 or 60 × 80 cm, and three on acrylic glass shown in exhibitions, plus two artist's proofs.
Each print is numbered, comes with its certificate of authenticity and is recorded in the print register.
